Be A Hexie Queen Blog Hop

Welcome Hoppers to the Be A Hexie Queen Blog Hop!!!

Brought to you by The Queen of Hops, Madame Samm, along with The Queen of Cheer, Debby Kratovil.  Here are the Queens of Hexie for today...be sure to visit all of the Queen-doms.  You will not want to miss a moment of the magic!

Day 6: Tuesday, August 27

Thank you sew much for stopping by today!

On my bucket list of quilts...make a Christmas Quilt for each bed in our home. Well that hasn't happened...YET...but at least now I have a little Christmas Quilt for our bedroom.

Hubby crafted our quilt hanger in our bedroom. My new Christmas quilt looks really great hanging there, don't you think?

I wanted to try a modern quilt and was inspired by the Ho Ho Ho Blog Hop earlier this month...the idea of a Christmas tree utilizing the hexies as ornaments. Can you see the quilting in green...the tree?  You may have to look really close.

We tried to take a some pics outside but the sun was diving behind the trees and was sadly not providing too much light.  At least today was sunny...in stark comparison to most of our days lately...and you can certainly feel fall in the air along with the shorter days.  And what follows...fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving???  Why Christmas...of course!  It really isn't that far off!!

Here are some closeups.  An origami hexagon star.

Some machine embroidery...A Christmas in Bloom design pack purchased from Embroidery Library.  Most of the hexie ornaments are from an Aspen Frost mini-charm pack...the balance from scraps of other Christmas Fabric.

Thank you, again, for stopping by.  I love your comments almost as much as Christmas...so I hope you will leave one!  And please stop by again soon!

Until then...

No Way! Another BOM(s)

I know...I said no more BOM for a while so that I could finish some of those UFOs which happen to include 3 BOM for which blocks need to be set and the quilts finished....plus another BOW (Grandmother's Choice) which is becoming more and more intimidating (I am currently on Week 3 and looking ahead at the incredibly complex Week 4 while the balance of the world is on 49 or something).  I should not start a new BOM until I complete the other 4...right?  Right!  Nope...not so fast.

I signed up to do the BOM quilts at Studio Stitch...and July was the first month. There are two colorways...signed on board for both!  (who can resist their deal...a quilt for $7.50...not me apparently)

This year they have chosen solids in two color sets.  The first is white, gray, green and orange and the second is white and three shades of blue.  At our first monthly meeting the idea was floated around to substitute one of the fabrics in the color set with a different fabric to create something a little more....individual.

Buy fabric...why yes, please!  So for the gray, green and orange one...I wanted a newspaper print.  And for the blue one, I chose a mustard colored fabric.

Take a look...

There wasn't anything difficult about these blocks...thankfully.  (My original plan for today was to complete these two and do two in the Grandmother's Choice...but I chickened out when I saw the one for Week 4!)

I love how the newsprint looks.  The color is a little washed out in the picture. I guess there is such a thing a too much sun...who knew!

Plus the lens on my camera fogged up when  I went from inside with air conditioner to outside with very heavy humidity.

I just love how they turned out....love them both!

Sew we quilt

Today, I also worked on my projects for the Be A Hexie Queen Blog Hop which starts on August 21st and I was pretty happy with my progress.  Hopefully, I can finish those in plenty of time for the hop....we can always hope!

This week in the Quilt Room, my list includes more progress on my Hexies and maybe work on Block 3 for the Grandmother's Choice.  I also hope to attend a yoga class, book club, have dinner with family and friends.

Until then...

HO HO HO...Merry {August}!?!

Welcome Merry Blog Hoppers!  HO HO HO...So glad you stopped by.

Ho Ho Ho Blog Hop Schedule

HO HO HO...thank you to Madame Samm at Sew We Quilt for packing the sleigh with such lovely {blog hop} ideas and to Carol at Just Let Me Quilt for lining up the reindeer.  Santa might even make an appearance!

Be sure to visit all of the reindeer that Carol has lined up for today.  You will not want to miss a single one.

I have two projects to share...hope you enjoy!

Recently, I stumbled upon this tutorial for a Scrappy Trip Around the World quilt.  I was intrigued and wanted to try it...so, here it is....for HO HO HO!

They made it look to so easy but after a few unstitches and restitches...I finally got it together.  Yay, me...I mean HO HO HO!

Last Christmas, there was a poinsettia that would not die.  Ok...that sounds cruel...but it always seemed like poinsettias had an expiration date of about January 10th.  Well, not this one!  It even stayed red!  A friend said that you can plant them outside...and while I wasn't certain that it would work...I thought why not.  So I did...check out it out...it is huge!!  Next step... figure out how to get it to turn red!

And go ahead and give a little chuckle because I wondered what my little Trip Around the World quilt would look under this poinsettia on my table...but since I couldn't dig it up just for the blog hop...I did the next best thing....sort of...

Not quite the same...LOL!

My second project started with some machine embroidery that I did earlier this year...Santa and the Misses!  {Told you that you would see Santa.}

I decided to wrap up the Claus's in some log cabin blocks just for this occasion.  After all it gets really cold at the North Pole {in August} HO HO HO!

I love how it turned out!  And I just love the Blitzen fabric, don't you?  I have used it in several projects.  And this little quilt will be perfect on our coffee table at Christmas!  HO HO HO!

Thank you for stopping by for a visit.  Hope you will leave a message, become a follower or both...that would be as awesome as snow on Christmas Day!

Well, I am off to visit the other reindeer...I mean Dears...where I am certain to be inspired!  You will be too!  Come back soon for a visit, ok?

Until then...
