Craftsy BOM Traveling Soon

Hi all...

Hope you had a fabulous weekend!  I can hardly believe that Christmas is just around the corner.  My list is long and time is short...but I still took some time out to attend a yoga art journaling with Alisha at Greensboro Community Yoga.  A little gift for me.

So what is yoga art journaling you ask...well, there is a little bit of meditation and a little bit of seated yoga.  There is tea...great flavors...and chocolate.  There is some intention setting and trying to move away from things that hold us back. Then there is a art part.  You find images and words from magazines that speak to cut them out and glue them over the pages of a journal...basically cover the blank page with something that can inspire you.  Then you journal over the picture.  She even had us write a Thank You note to ourselves for making the time for "me".  I plan to write my first entry tonight.  The first few pages of my journal have pics of Christmas scenes....appropriate, don't you think?

I didn't have a lot of time this week or weekend in the quilt room.  I did create back for a Christmas quilt that is now with the long arm quilter....although I don't know how I will find the time to finish it before Christmas...maybe?

I still need to complete the back for the Craftsy BOM top that I completed a month or so ago and am just now posting a pic of....

I think it is going to be great when it is finished.  And the Christmas one too! Here is a picture of the Christmas one...

It has been hanging (literally) around the quilt room since January...time to wrap that one up don't you think?!  I created it as part of the In Your Words Blog Hop.

I am off to complete my grocery list for our annual Christmas party next Saturday. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone.

Hopefully, next Sunday will be a quilt day...or at least a bit more calm...then it is back in full Christmas mode until the big day.

Until then...

Time for a Review

Well, I don't know about you but I am having a hard time believing that 2013 is rapidly coming to a close.  This year has flown past...I mean really fast!

I posted some goals way back in January and updated them in July but since we are here at the end of the year...I thought I would see how I did.

So a little recap (original goals in black) and an update...
  • Complete the Craftsy BOM Quilt - The flimsy is heading to the quilters hopefully this weekend.
  • Complete the two Studio Stitch BOM Quilts - All of the blocks are finished...just need to decide on how to set the blocks and complete the tops.  I have one of them sketched out and know the yardage that I will need buy in order to complete.  The other one...I haven't decided yet.  And a further note...I signed up to do 2 more Studio Stitch I guess all 4 of those will go on the list to complete in 2014.
  • Catch Up on the Grandmother's Choice BOW - I have 7 blocks complete...only 42 more to go?!
  • Complete the Christmas aprons for my lovely daughter and I to wear as we bake Christmas goodies in only 11 months - Nope, haven't started this.  I think the fear is the quilting part.  Yep, that's definitely what's holding me back.  I did purchase a single run embroidery pattern so that might give me the courage to get them complete.
  • Complete the Blooming Nine Patch quilt that I started years ago - Nope...haven't worked on this either.  This one requires some additional piecing.  The challenge here is pulling it all out and deciding where to start.
  • Complete the Quilt as You Go quilt that I started even longer ago - See update above for Blooming Nine Patch.
  • Make a Christmas Village tree skirt - (what was I thinking) I haven't even  started this one!  This one requires lots of embroidery.  I will need to buy lots of thread...again?!
  • Participate in at least 6 blog hops
  • Make Christmas gifts - Well...that didn't happen!
  • Eat better, cook more and practice yoga - I am eating better.  Cooking more...well, not really?!  And more depends.
  • More trips to the Mountains (definitely) - We have enjoyed our time in the mountains...and have discussed making a trip at least once a month for at least for one night for 2014.  Yippie!
  • Dates with Hubby We are having a fabulous time!

Well, it looks like some of the goals are going to be carry overs.  Hopefully next year will be better.  This weekend I am taking an art journal-ing yoga class.  Part of the journal part will be setting goals for 2014.  Perhaps I will use that time to set my goals for the quilt room as well.

Until then...

Sew Mollie Sue, Quilt Much?  <-- You are here!

Let's give a round of appreciative applause to the two ladies who have brought us all together...  Madame Samm, Sew We Quit, and Vickie, More Stars in Comanache.  Thank you both for all you do!

Well, let's get to it!!

I have to share a story of when I first started contemplating which bird I would use for this wasn't an owl.  Never crossed my mind...never gave it any all!  In focus seems to go towards chickens and roosters.  I searched Pinterest for inspiration...high and low...and nothing really struck me as...OMG...that's it!!  What I did notice was the number of owls Pinned...especially for crocheting.  Hmmm...that's interesting I thought.

I did find a pattern I thought was too cute to pass up.  Head over to see Julie at The Crafty Quilter for the pattern I used for my project.

Sew...with my materials list in hand...I headed to JoAnn's for some rooster fabric.  I searched and searched through the quilting fabric and none of them seemed right for my little project.  But AGAIN with the owls...what is up with all of the owls...and where are all of the roosters??  Frustration began to set in.

And then... I saw this really cute owl print.  I thought I might just get a little of it to see what I can do with know....for my stash.  So I pulled it and dropped it in my boogie buggy.  And then I saw the fruit print...colors matched so easily (love it)...and then the stripes (fabulous)...along with the floral (awesome)...this project was practically making itself!

Thank goodness...owls are birds!! :)

And because I chose the owl print followed by the fruit print followed by the stripes and followed by the red floral print, I was able to complete my kitchen plan.   LOL!  Confused?...let me explain.

You see, I had picked this wonderful color for the cabinets in our kitchen called Cinnamon Cake (new color is on the going back from that) and I wanted to paint the walls in a warm tone but I couldn't find a paint color I thought would compliment the cabinets...until this "owl" project.

I was so inspired by the red floral...I am going to recover my chair seats in that fabric...make a few pillows...paint the walls an autumn color (very warm and inviting)...a new mirror...and add some curtains...DONE!  I am so excited. It seems like it just fell into place.

I can hardly wait to get started. It is going to be fabulous!!  And "whoooo-whooooo" gets the glory...why the wise owl, of course!

Again...thank you for stopping by.  Hope you have a lovely time "boogie-ing" the day away!

Visit again soon!

Until then...

Barn Quilts

Several weeks ago (yes, I am so behind on blogging), Hubby and I made a trip to Ashe County, North Carolina...for the sole purpose of looking at some of the quilt blocks.  Thought I would share some of the photos that we took.

Aren't they fabulous?  There are lots of the barn quilts scattered through out the county.  These are but a few!

Makes me want to drop my computer and go sew.  :)

Until then...

Sunday, November 17, 2013 has been a while.  Life is busy and blogging tends to take a back seat when things get crazy busy.

And too...for several weeks, I just didn't feel like being entertaining.

We lost one of our family suddenly in mid October....a very sad time for our family.

Our sweet Jackson went to doggy heaven.  He was a great quilt buddy and I miss him dearly in the Quilt Room.  He was quite possibly the sweetest, gentlest dog I have known.

A couple things to share...

Starting this week...

Here is Vickie and the schedule for our HOP

Until then...

Grandmother's Choice Block of the Week Progress

Progress??  Well it is slow and the turtle....

Several weeks ago, I spent some time in the sewing room (unlike this weekend) and I was able to get several more blocks in the Grandmother's Choice Block of the Week complete.  Can I get a Whoop! Whoop!

You may recall that I had a tough time with Block 2.  Yes, it was definitely a struggle challenge disaster from which I recovered...finally I got it to work.

So, to is Block 2 and 1.  Block 2 looks harmless enough, right?  Well, trust isn't!!

Block 2 is finished and on to Grandmother's Choice BOW 3 Union Square Red Rebellion.  This one was much easier although I was a little worried when I started to work on it.  A little gun shy after Block 2 I suspect.

Next up...Grandmother's Choice BOW 4 Kansas Sunflower.  Well this one caused a few choice words I have to say...but at least I cut it out only once...unlike Block 2 which required three cuts.  I don't love the center and I may go back and redo that  part but considering the difficulty of the block...I may not!  :)

And then there was Grandmother's Choice BOW 5  New Jersey Suffrage Pioneer.  This one was pretty easy...thankfully.

Here are the first five all together...whoohoo...only 44 more to go! :)

I have a couple more complete but I think I will save those for a later post.

For some reason...while I have had more opportunities to sew (this weekend being an exception) I haven't had much opportunity to post.  And let's face it...the sewing is the best part...RIGHT!?

So besides the Grandmother's Choice BOW...what am I doing???

Well, I am working on putting my Craftsy BOM blocks together into a quilt top. I have the two Studio Stitch $5 BOM Quilts that I am staying current with...thankfully!  Plus I have a couple more quilts in the works that I would love to get complete by the end of the year (HA...even I am laughing at that!).  I am also working on my knitting...which has kind of become a sort of mini passion for me. If I can only manage to stop tearing out my stitches.  I will definitely have to share some of my progress.

Hopefully, I can spend more time in the Quilt Room this week than I did the past hour would make me a winner!  :)

I would love to hear what you are working on!  Please share...

Until then...

Be A Hexie Queen Blog Hop

Day 6: Tuesday, August 27

Thank you sew much for stopping by today!

On my bucket list of quilts...make a Christmas Quilt for each bed in our home. Well that hasn't happened...YET...but at least now I have a little Christmas Quilt for our bedroom.

Hubby crafted our quilt hanger in our bedroom. My new Christmas quilt looks really great hanging there, don't you think?

I wanted to try a modern quilt and was inspired by the Ho Ho Ho Blog Hop earlier this month...the idea of a Christmas tree utilizing the hexies as ornaments. Can you see the quilting in green...the tree?  You may have to look really close.

We tried to take a some pics outside but the sun was diving behind the trees and was sadly not providing too much light.  At least today was stark comparison to most of our days lately...and you can certainly feel fall in the air along with the shorter days.  And what follows...fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving???  Why Christmas...of course!  It really isn't that far off!!

Here are some closeups.  An origami hexagon star.

Some machine embroidery...A Christmas in Bloom design pack purchased from Embroidery Library.  Most of the hexie ornaments are from an Aspen Frost mini-charm pack...the balance from scraps of other Christmas Fabric.

Thank you, again, for stopping by.  I love your comments almost as much as I hope you will leave one!  And please stop by again soon!

Until then...
